Danshui ( 淡水) Old Street Shopping Paradise
Everyone loves Old Street in Danshui, Taiwan. There is nothing like the thrill of shopping in Taiwan’s older streets and open markets. They are alive and vibrant with Taiwanese snacks or little eats everywhere. You can literally eat your way down the street, enjoying the best of snack heaven, as you wander through the small unique shops. This is a shoppers paradise. It is an area where shoppers of all ages will delight. Just think of what you might find, while strolling down Danshui’s Old Street. Life is good, in Danshui, Taiwan.
It is hard not to fall in love with Danshui’s Old Street. There are treasures everywhere. Danshui, an old fishing village that is amidst all the busy day to day commercialised routines of the city of Taipei, is a treasure hunters best friend. What a change from the work week and how refreshing. The Old Street is known for it’s Taiwanese specialities, famous little eats, and the freshest seafood anywhere. Spend the day exploring and grazing on all the little eats that have made Taiwan famous. While you are there, be sure to grab an ice cream cone from Tower Ice Cream. Just try and eat this tower before it melts.
While in the area, why not check out Fort San Domingo! There is no doubt that this red sprawling building is one of Taiwan’s iconic adventures. Here you will find a fortress that reflects many cultures. The Dutch, the Chinese, the English, and the Japanese have all left their thumb print on Fort San Domingo, Then there are all the others who have also explored and called Fort San Domingo home at some point in history. Fort San Domingo is a step back in the yesteryear of Taiwan. Learn of it’s story, the good times and the bad. Join in the fun, at Fort San Domingo.
Be sure to end the day at Fisherman’s Wharf, down by Lovers Bridge. You have not seen the sunset until you see it down at the beach. Take a nice walk across Lover’s Bridge, the view is out of this world. And if your really looking for a treat…. Why not catch the ferry and watch the sunset from its deck for only 100 TWD round trip. Damshui is a lover’s delight.
