Thew Soaring Dragon Fish Statue is located on the east bank of the Love River in the city of Kaohsiung,Taiwan. Thew Soaring Dragon Fish Statue is magnificent and impressive in size and workmanship. This statue was originally created as a lantern for the 2001 Lantern Festival in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. A dragon head with a fish body symbolizes transformation. Kaohsiung, Taiwan is definitely a city in transformation.Kaohsiung has over 2.7  million inhabitants, and is the second largest city in Taiwan. Kaohsiung alternates between the ancient and the modern with the ease of someone changing their shoes. This large lantern was used to promote Kaohsiung during the 2001 Lantern Festival. The Statue is over 25 meters tall and weighs 30 tons. It is made completely out of stainless steel. At certain festivities during the year, flickering lights light up the dragon’s body. At these events he also breathes out real smoke. This is one of the main landmarks to be found in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Taiwan High Speed Rail line (HSR) is a good option for getting to Kaohsiung from Taipei. The trip takes about 90 minutes.

Buses run full length of the island, with stops in most major towns. They feature fully reclining seats, baggage transportation and plenty of leg room. The bus station is near the train station in Kaohsiung.

Kaohsiung International Airport is 15 minutes from the city, with major airlines arriving from other Asian countries several times daily. There are no flights from Taipei to Kaohsiung.
