Chilkat Pass, a mountain pass connecting Alaska, USA and Yukon, Canada! It is awesome! It is a part of the far north. It is the natural divide between the Klehini River and the Kelsall River and is NW of Haines, Alaska. It is the well-used site of the Dalton Trail. The Dalton Trail was put on the map during the Klondike Gold Rush. Today, this same route is a modern highway that connects Haines, Alaska and Haines Junction, Yukon.
Chilkat Pass is name for the Chilkat Tribe, a small sub-group of the Tlingit First Nation Peoples. Most of the Tlingit Nation today resides in the Haines, Alaska area. They are a delightful and friendly group. Some of my best memories in Haines were the many potlatches I attended. If you are comfortable with other cultures and languages, you will love these traditional celebrations.
If you like adventure, then Haines, Alaska is the place. There is fantastic kayaking tours, fishing, and wildlife adventures for all. Be sure to check the activity level of a tour before you join it. Some are for the extremely adventurous and hardy and others are more leisurely. There is something for everyone in Haines, Alaska. Be still as you move around and you may see some of the most incredible wildlife on earth. Submerge yourself in the cultural and historical experience of Haines, Alaska.

Another of my favorite places in Haines Junction is Da Ku Cultural Center. Da Ku means “Our House.” This is the gathering place of the Champagne and Aishihik Firsrt Nation peoples. Come immerse yourself in the traditions and languages of these proud and awesome people. Learn about their culture! Celebrate Life! Celebrate with the Champagne and Aishihik Nations Today!
