While traveling through the Denali national park on an autumn day, this beautiful view presented itself. The surrounding hills had a fresh layer of snow. Snow begins to fall in the early to mid-autumn, as much of the park is very high. Once the first snowfall arrives, it is only a matter of time till the hills will be completely covered by this magnificent white stuff.

Denali State Park Alaska is a small piece of Alaskan paradise. Its tallest peak is Mt.McKinley. Mt. McKinley is revered by the Tanaina Indians. “Kesugi” is an Indian word in the Tanaina dialect which means “The Ancient One.” It is interesting that Denali in the Tanana dialect means “The High One.” Denali is the original name for Mt. McKinley. Mt. McKinley is 20,320 feet high and is the highest mountain peak in North America.

Denali State Park Alaska is over 325 acres of State Park. It is located in Alaska, America’s most northern state. On one side it borders the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The borough is on the east side of the Denali (Old Name Mckinley National Reserve)Park and does allow people to see the Denali mountain from several viewpoints.

This video was taken along the inside passage of the Alaska Marine Highway. We traveled via the Alaska Ferry system to Ketchikan, Juneau, and then to Whittier. The trip is wonderful no matter what the time of year is since the wildlife changes with the seasons. Alaska Marine Highway

The Alaska Marine Highway has to be one of our favorite adventures and one we have done several times. It connects into the Alaska State highway system, and railways giving you plenty of adventure all along the way. The distance, territories, and place one can see will boggle the mind. This article is meant to be a guide, and a motivational piece to get you the reader out of your house or apartment and on an adventure that does not have to be high cost unless you want it to be. First, you must look into the Washington state ferry reservations from Bellingham Washington using the Alaska Marine Highway reservation system. The website will give some general idea on times, dates of sailings, and costs of doing so. Now keep in mind that the state of Alaska will raise the prices during the most active time of the year, and July – August will be the most expensive time. You can learn even more details of this adventure here at https://exploretraveler.com/alaska-marine-highway/ Here our main website has many of our Alaska trips and worldwide adventures.

Here is a small music video to go with the more in-depth article about the sycamore tree we found in the city of #Jericho in the #Palestine territory controlled by modern-day #Israel.
“Sycamore Tree, an ancient species of the Fig Tree, is amazing. It is also related to the Mulberry Tree. This particular species of the Sycamore Tree is sometimes spelled Sycamore, for distinction from the other Fig species. This species of the Sycamore Tree is found in Madagascar, Egypt, and Israel.”
We found this tree within the PalistineanTerritories and were the only ones there at the time. This tree is rumored to be the offspring of the grove of trees mentioned in the Bible. The people living there today were fond of the very few remaining trees and several shops surrounding this area, but there were very few tourists who decided to go there.

The year is 1932, and the nation is still suffering from the effects of the Great Depression, recovery is in sight, fueled by industry success as much as government programs. The listeners of The World Adventerer’s Club and other travelogue series in this early part of radio’s Golden Age were offered glimpses of exotic places and extraordinary events without leaving their own front room.

The renewed interest in far off lands and cultures was, at least in part, also a reflection of the political situation. Many nations during this time were expanding their influence around the globe establishing colonies and outposts. You can still hear a faint echo of this influence in the stories — some of the episodes carry a decidedly “colonial” attitude toward the native inhabitants of these countries … who are sometimes characterized in a manner that, by today’s standards, would be offensive.

The setting for the series is a well-to-do gentleman’s club of the type that flourished in the 1890’s from Europe to the US. There’s even an all male chorus on hand, common to those establishments, which each week extols the virtues of living on the edge where adventures, discoveries, and the real threat of death are constant companions

Using the cigar-smoky, brandy in hand, parlor as a backdrop, each episode takes the form of a report being told to the other members of the club by someone who’s just returned from some adventure in a far away, mysterious place. Members in the radio audience need only sit back in their chair, close their eyes, and imagine that they, too, are basking in the camaraderie of the club – as they share their experiences.

Sadly, nothing is known about any of the regular cast members of this show. We do know that Hanley Stafford was the featured story teller in at least six of the episodes. Hanley Stafford, who was born on September 22, 1889 as Alfred John Austin, took his stage name from his birthplace of Hanley, Staffordshire in England. No stranger to US radio his was the voice of “Daddy” for “Baby Snooks” and “Dithers” in the “Blondie” radio program. He died of a heart attack just a couple weeks before his 79th birthday on September 11 1968.

The series was transcribed by a California company named Transco. Of course, one of the benefits of transcription is that all 32 of the 15-minute episodes produced are still available for us to enjoy today. A tribute to the enduring nature of this series, it should be mentioned that much later, from January 1947 to January 1948, another series borrowed it’s format for a set of 30-minute episodes under the simplified name The Adventurer’s Club.

And now, find a deep wingback chair, lean back, and prepare to enter a time when most of the world was truly unknown and any exploration revealed wonders, opportunities and dangers.

Sequoia National Forest – Land of Towering Giants

A short film about the Sequoia National Forest and the caves within the area.

Sequoia National Park, in California, is the land of towering giants! What a privilege it is to walk among these ancient trees. Giant Sequoias can live to be over 3,000 years old. Their roots are really quite shallow, but they spread out to the side as far as 50 feet. As they spread, they intertwine with neighboring giants and they all stand strong.

These giants even have built-in protection against damage from fire and extreme heat. The bark is extremely thick and acts as an insulator. Thus the periodic fires that trouble the forest, are less of a burden on Sequoias.

Unlike its cousin, the Coastal Redwood, the Giant Sequoia can only propagate from seed. The Coastal Redwoods can sprout from the stump and the root. But the Giant Sequoia sprouts only from the tiniest of seeds. It takes approximately 91,000 sequoia seeds to weigh just 1 pound. These tiny seeds, in turn, produce the giants of the forest.

The General Sherman Tree, one of the giants of the Sequoia National Forest, is the largest in the world at 52,508 cubic feet. The General Grant Tree, which is also in the Sequoia National Forest, is the second-largest at 46,608 cubic feet. These are large massive trees!
