The original 2024 caption

The original caption is preserved below as historical context, not a promise of current airline coverage:

Between AirAsia and FireFly airlines you can travel all of South East Asia

Check the trip you actually plan to take

For flight searches, Penang International Airport uses the code PEN. AirAsia MOVE’s Penang page lists flight-search destinations and describes MOVE as an online travel agency, not just a listing of AirAsia-operated flights. Firefly’s own company overview describes its Penang and Subang connections. These sources do not establish that the two airlines reach every Southeast Asian destination directly from Penang.

  • Search your exact origin, destination and dates on the AirAsia MOVE flight-search page or Firefly’s official website.
  • Check the operating airline, airport, direct or connecting itinerary, and ticket conditions before paying. Do not infer a current service, included baggage allowance or price from this archived clip.

Planning sources checked October 14, 2026. The airline and airport information is separately researched context, not a transcript or a description of scenes in the archived video. No new trip, live fare search or test booking is reported.

Penang airport: a regional gateway, not every route

The airport gives the original caption some useful context. In its October 7, 2026 report on Penang International Airport, Malaysia Airports identifies PEN as a gateway to northern Malaysia. It reports that 27 airlines connected Penang to 22 destinations as of September 2026. This is an airport-wide snapshot, not a list of destinations operated by AirAsia and Firefly alone.

The same report records four million passenger movements in the first half of 2026, split between 2.2 million international and 1.8 million domestic movements. Passenger movements measure airport activity; they do not tell you which flight fits a particular journey. For that, the useful detail is the actual airport-to-airport itinerary.

Malaysia Airports also says expansion work is ongoing at PEN. The project covers the terminal, aircraft apron and supporting infrastructure, with a planned increase in annual handling capacity from 6.5 million to 12 million passengers. That is a capacity target, not a statement that the expansion is complete.

Bangkok means two different airports

Bangkok is a practical example of why the airport name matters as much as the city. Malaysia Airports’ October 12, 2026 connectivity announcement distinguishes Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) from Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). It identifies Penang–Suvarnabhumi service via Thai Airways and Penang–Don Mueang service via Firefly.

The announcement’s new Vietjet Thailand service is between KLIA Terminal 2 and Suvarnabhumi, not Penang. The article discusses several Malaysian departure points, so its Kuala Lumpur launch should not be mistaken for another PEN route. Read the origin and arrival airport together when comparing the examples.

For a Bangkok trip, write down BKK or DMK alongside the flight you are considering. Two results headed “Bangkok” can lead to different arrival airports. These dated operator statements explain the distinction; they are not a live timetable, a fare quote or confirmation of availability on your travel dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which airport should I search for when starting in Penang?

Search for Penang International Airport, code PEN. The airport-wide figures above describe PEN’s network, while an airline’s company overview may cover several departure airports. Keep Penang as the selected origin when checking a proposed regional journey.

Does the original caption mean every Southeast Asian destination has a direct flight from Penang?

No. The preserved caption does not establish that. Firefly’s company overview describes connections from Penang and Subang across Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. That is a network description spanning more than one origin, not proof that every place in those countries has a direct flight from PEN.

Are flights shown by AirAsia MOVE necessarily operated by AirAsia?

No. AirAsia MOVE describes itself as an online travel agency comparing flights from more than 700 airlines, including AirAsia. A destination link on its Penang page is a flight-search starting point, not by itself proof of the operating carrier or a nonstop route.

Which Bangkok airport does the operator identify for Firefly from Penang?

The October 12, 2026 Malaysia Airports announcement identifies Don Mueang (DMK) for Firefly via Penang, and Suvarnabhumi (BKK) for Thai Airways from Penang. These are distinct airports. Match the airport code to the specific itinerary rather than relying on “Bangkok” alone.
