Choose your Penang food outing

Start with the food stories John and Karen Gentry recorded, then use the guides to check what fits your own trip. Our archive documents the experiences shown. Penang ordering card with five questions to ask before choosing a dish, reproduced in text beside the image
ExploreTraveler’s ordering prompt card. Open the full-size infographic.

Five questions before ordering

  1. What do I choose to avoid? Specify meat, seafood, egg, dairy or other ingredients.
  2. What is in this dish? Ask about broth, sauces, cooking fat, fillings and toppings.
  3. Can the preparation match? Confirm what the maker can actually prepare, including shared equipment if it matters to you.
  4. What did the vendor confirm? Record the answer, source and date.
  5. Does it fit my requirements? Decide from the actual answers, and choose another option if they remain uncertain.

Explain an allergy separately. A vegetarian or vegan label does not answer every ingredient or preparation question.
